Target group

The Master’s course in Biology builds on the Bachelor’s courses in Biology and Molecular Biology at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz (JGU) or equivalent courses at other universities. The aim of the Master's degree is to qualify students for research-active work in key topics chosen by the students themselves. The main topics offered in the Department of Biology are: 1. Evolutionary Biology, Biodiversity Research and Anthropology 2. Developmental Biology and Neurobiology 3. Molecular Structural Biology, Cell Biology and Biotechnology

Annotation

If the Bachelor degree certificate is not available by the application deadline, but at least 135 credit points can be demonstrated: Submit a certificate of study and examinations and the average grade achieved so far. (This certificate must be issued by the relevant higher education institution, original or officially authenticated copy). After enrolment, the diploma must be submitted. If the degree was obtained abroad: officially authenticated copy of a certificate of recognition (responsible: Student Service - Admission International).

Admission requirements

Proof of a Bachelor’s degree in the subject of Biology or an equivalent degree at a German or international university. Sufficient proficiency in English The requirement is that the applicant still has the examination entitlement for this course. Applicants who obtained neither their higher education entrance qualification at a German-speaking institution nor a degree in a course conducted in German are required to provide evidence of German proficiency at the level of the “German Language Test for Admission to Higher Education for Foreign Students” (DSH). Even when all of the admission criteria have been met, admission to the Master's course in Biology depends upon the successful completion of the admission procedure. If the Master's course is subject to admission restrictions, admission shall be in accordance with the university selection rules.
