Annotation

The University of Witten/Herdecke attaches great importance to practical training from the first semester onwards. This includes, among other things, integration into the daily routine of clinical practice, internships at dental practices, practicing dentists as external lecturers in theoretical and practical training, pre-clinical care, integrated clinical courses and participation in the dental emergency service of the dental clinic. The University of Witten/Herdecke offers not only professional training but also the opportunity for personal development as part of its mission statement that the students’ personalities must take centre-stage. The university wants to enable its students to look beyond their own professional horizons, to be able to view facts from different perspectives and to make responsible decisions. Therefore, the university offers a fundamental study programme in which students from all faculties come together to discover and develop their reflective, communicative and artistic skills.

Admission requirements

The course is not subject to admission restrictions. Admission is granted based on a personal selection procedure. This includes an application via the campus online system for verifying the formalities for university admission and the motivation of the applicant, a practical aptitude test to determine the applicant’s manual dexterity and three-dimensional perception as well as a personal interview before a selection committee consisting of a university lecturer, a research associate and a student. Since most of the courses are taught in German, international students must have a level C1 proficiency in German.

Tuition fee

The tuition fee is based on the income that can be expected later on. The university allows for studying regardless of one’s financial background thanks to a reverse generation contract: Students can opt for immediate payment, delayed income-dependent payment or 50% immediate payment and 50% delayed payment. A maximum limit provides an upward cap on the payment. Payment is generally only for the standard period of study – even if it is exceeded.
