The content of the Master's course reflects the research profile of German Language and Literature at Osnabrück, which deals with German literature, language and culture within a European context and combines modern and ancient German literature with the literature of the Early Modern Era as well as German linguistics. In this respect, the schedule of studies is determined by modules on modern German literature (German literature in the context of European literature \; interpretation, edition and history of science) on Early Modern Era and ancient German literature (German literature of the Middle Ages and the Early Modern Age \; interpretation, edition and history of science) as well as linguistics (language structure). The study of the literature of the Early Modern Era allows, amongst other things, connections to be made to the key research areas of the Institute for Cultural History of the Early Modern Era at the Universität Osnabrück.The Master's degree opens up the opportunity to do a doctorate and, with the appropriate course planning/fulfilment of the relevant requirements, admission to any possible doctorate\; In accordance with this for the PhD programme on Migration Research and Intercultural Studies at the Universität Osnabrück.The degree also qualifies students for vocational and professional fields of activity in publishing companies, archives, libraries, museums, publications, editorial offices, writing features, in the field of adult education, scientific organisations, in politics and management consultancies.
Admission requirements
Bachelor's degree course or equivalent academic degree in German Studies. A degree course subject is generally suitable or closely related if it includes modules/courses in the scope of at least 63 ECTS credit points in the field of German Studies and these include at least 20 CP from German Linguistics, at least 20 credit points from German Literature and at least 10 credit points from German Medieval Studies.
