Annotation

The degree course in Dentistry is divided into three sections with practical and theoretical courses. In the third section, the students are involved in the treatment of patients. As a prerequisite for studying Dentistry, students should possess patience, attention to detail and manual dexterity. One month of nursing service must be completed before the start of the degree course or during the non-teaching periods and first-aid training must also be proved for the first section examination. An internship in a dental laboratory before the start of the degree course is recommended, as skills and abilities that are also part of the degree course can be learned there. Costs of EUR 500 to EUR 1,000 are incurred for basic materials, instruments and equipment, which are indispensable for the practical courses, in the first semester depending on your own wishes. In the following semesters, the amount for consumables is approx. EUR 150 in each case. In the first degree course section of four semesters, students complete lectures and internships in the natural sciences of physics, chemistry and biology. They also learn theoretical and practical fundamentals of medicine in the subjects of Biochemistry, Anatomy and Physiology. Attending Medical Communication (Terminology) is now mandatory for all students prior to the section examination. The second part section of the degree course is characterised by two semesters of practical training on the patient simulator, the phantom. Students acquire skills and abilities in tooth preservation and dental prosthetics. In addition, initial practical experience is gained in orthodontic preparation and prophylaxis as well as in dental surgery preparation and emergency medicine. Finally, the third (clinical) section of the four-semester degree course focuses on training on patients in integrated treatment courses as well as in-depth internships in the dental disciplines. However, medical subjects such as Dermatology, Internal Medicine and Pharmacology are also part of the curriculum. Cross-sectional areas ranging from health sciences and scientific work to pain medicine are new for dentistry.
