Annotation

Make-up artists are important artistic collaborators in the set design departments of theatre, film and television. Their creative skills, craftsmanship, creativity and empathy enable them to create convincing appearances of performers. The aim of the degree course is to master the various means of design so that, in collaboration with stage and costume designers, solutions can be developed that are effective on stage and in the media, based on designs and figurines. This requires flexibility and the ability to cooperate. The successful realisation of directorial concepts requires make-up inventions that facilitate the identification of the performer with their role. As part of the teaching programme, students create their own designs and test the use of various design elements to complete an overall picture. The development of a sense of colour and form are the basis for the stylistically confident preparation of tasks according to historical templates and contemporary requirements. Students are introduced to various make-up techniques, historical and modern hairstyle design, wig concepts and various special effects. Upon completion of their studies, graduates can choose to work in theatre, film, television or other media according to their artistic and technical skills and genre-specific working methods.
