Target group

The degree course appeals to mathematically talented students who want to reach the frontier of research and want to work in industry and business, science or administration, with a similar level and character to that of a traditional mathematician.

Annotation

There is a year-round application for the Master's degree in Mathematics (M.Sc.) (see https://www.studium.uni-mainz.de/ganzjaehrige-bewerbung/). Applications are made via the Admission Office of the University Mainz. If the Bachelor degree certificate is not available by the application deadline, but at least 135 credit points can be proven: Submit a certificate of study and examinations and the average grade achieved so far. (This certificate must be issued by the relevant higher education, original or officially authenticated copy). After enrolment, the diploma must be submitted. If the degree was obtained abroad: Officially authenticated copy of a certificate of recognition (responsible: Student Service - Admission International).

Admission requirements

Bachelor's degree in Mathematics with a grade of at least “satisfactory” or a very similar degree from a university in Germany or abroad. In the case of a Bachelor's degree in a subject other than Mathematics, at least 100 courses worth at least 27 CP in the chosen minor subject. A sufficient proficiency in English is required. Applicants who obtained neither their higher education entrance qualification at a German-speaking institution nor a degree in a course conducted in German are required to provide evidence of German proficiency at the level of the “German Language Test for Admission to Higher Education for Foreign Students” (DSH).
