Annotation

Students who have the aim of attaining the teaching qualification at intermediate and German lower secondary schools complete their studies in a tiered course structure. Firstly, the Bachelor's degree course "Education and Teaching" at the Universität Osnabrück must be completed or proof provided of an equivalent degree obtained at another university in the appropriate subject, or in a closely related subject with a corresponding teacher-training specialisation. The Master's degree course "Teaching Qualification (intermediate and German lower secondary school level)" builds onto this; the course is oriented towards the professional field of schools and since the winter semester 2014/2015 has been comprised of four semesters. An application is required for this in every case.A Master's degree is the prerequisite for admission to postgraduate civil service. As part of the teacher training course, English is studied in combination with the second teaching subject chosen in the Bachelor's degree course according to the respective specialisation (German lower secondary school or intermediate school). As part of the Master's supplementary course "Complementary Subject for the Teaching Qualification for intermediate and German lower secondary schools" a third teaching subject can be studied. In addition to English and the second teaching subject in the specialisation area INTERMEDIATE SCHOOLS, Biology, German, Protestant Religion, History, Islamic Religion, Catholic Religion, Art, Mathematics, Music, Physics, Sport or Textile Design can be studied as a third teaching subject and, in the specialisation area LOWER SECONDARY SCHOOL, French can also be studied as a third teaching subject. For both focal areas, Protestant, Islamic and Catholic Religion are excluded as a third teaching subject, however, if one of these teaching subjects has already been studied as a second teaching subject. In addition to the teaching subjects, the teacher training core curriculum (Kerncurriculum Lehrerbildung, KCL) is mandatory. As part of this, skills in educational science are taught. The Master's degree course includes an 18-week in-school practical phase, which includes both teaching subjects. Together with the in-school practical phase, a research project is completed in one of the two teaching subjects or in Education Science. If one of the chosen subjects is a modern foreign language, during registration for the Master's degree examination, proof of a three-month course-relevant stay in a country in which this language is the official language must be provided. If the further subject is also a modern foreign language, another stay abroad is not required. The Master's thesis can be completed in one of the two teaching subjects or in Education Theory.
