Catholic Theology

Annotation

The subject Catholic Theology allows you to acquire an academically based understanding of the Christian faith, its tradition, its destructive and constructive historical effect and its possible potential for forming differentiating societies and culture(s) in a globalised world. This competence is formed by acquiring fundamental knowledge in Biblical, Historical and Systematic Theology, Religious Education and Practical Theology as well as learning about their specific methods and methodologies. By networking the individual theological disciplines, you will gain the complex skills needed to evaluate religious and religiously-relevant phenomena in contemporary culture and in societal and church development. Students also gain a nuanced awareness of ethical problems. The application focus of the course enables students to understand the Christian faith and its tradition within the context of the church and society, to discover the action perspectives that arise from this and to develop these perspectives in a justified manner. Catholic Theology can be studied as part of the degree courses in History and Cultural Studies (GuK) and Language, Literature, Culture (SLK) at the Justus-Liebig-Universität Gießen.
