Application requirements
Students who matriculated at the following universities can apply:
- Martin-Luther-Universität Halle-Wittenberg
- Burg Giebichenstein Kunsthochschule Halle
- Evangelische Hochschule für Kirchenmusik Halle
- Hochschule Anhalt
- Hochschule Merseburg
- Students taking part in a bilateral exchange programme between universities (for a max of six months)
In order to prove the eligibility to live in student accommodation, the tenant is obliged to present a valid certificate of enrolment to the responsible administrator or send it via mail to the responsible local facilitator immediately or at the latest four weeks after moving in. Additionally, the tenant needs to provide the certificate of enrolment for the following semester at the latest by 31 October (winter semester) or 30 April (summer semester).
Application deadline
Applications can be submitted throughout the year. For the winter semester, the deadline is 31 August and for the summer semester, it is 28 February. The certificate of enrolment can be submitted after the application. The applications will be registered on a waiting list according to the date of receipt.

Offers for dorm places are made on the basis of the waiting list and are furthermore based on social and organisational criteria according to the following list and in the order based on agreements with universities.
Quotas in place (based on agreements with universities):
- 10% of the vacancies at the start of semester are reserved for programme and/or exchange students based on the agreement with the universities at the place of study,
- 10% of the vacancies are reserved for students of the preparatory college (German: Studienkolleg) based on the agreement with the universities at the place of study,
- 10% of the vacancies are reserved for students of admission-restricted courses (German: Numerus Clausus / NC).
Social and organisational criteria:
- Severely handicapped students and students with children,
- First-semester students,
- Applicants starting their Master-level degree course,
- Advanced-semester students who, as part of their education, have not yet had a place in one of the student dorms at their place of study,
- PhD / doctoral students (national and international),
- Applicants who are enrolled at a university which is not catered for by Studentenwerk Halle on the basis of bilateral exchange agreements between the educational institutions and
- Applicants whose permanent address (i.e. parents’ address of German nationals) is at their place of study and/or who are 30 years of age or older are only going to be offered a dorm place by Studentenwerk Halle if the above mentioned applicants have been allocated places.
