• Standard application procedure

  Application requirements
  All students enrolled at the Thuringian state universities or persons who have applied to a Thuringian university for the following semester are entitled to live there.

  Application deadline
  The application period for the winter semester is 1 April of the year in which your studies will begin. The application period for the summer semester is 1 October of the previous year.
  The allocation of free dorm rooms is based on the chronological order of the received applications and starts six weeks before the semester.

  Application
  Please apply online.
  
  You will not yet need a certificate of enrolment in order to apply. Submission of this certificate does not become absolutely necessary until the rental agreement is to be finalised.
  
  Shortly after your application has been submitted, you will receive a confirmation mail stating that your application has been received by the Studierendenwerk. The allocation of the rooms will take place no earlier than 6 weeks before the semester starts.
  
  The allocation of free dorm rooms is based on the chronological order of the received applications. However, students from abroad with timely application will be selected preferably since they may have particular problems on the private housing market due to the shortage of their study duration (short-term students up to 12 months), to language problems or their origin. Applications after 31 July or 31 January of each year will be added to the regular list of applicants according to date of submission.

• Additional information

  Accommodation in the residential complex on Hummelstraße is only available for 10 months (1 October - 31 July) at a time each year.
  
  The monthly paid rental costs are based on a rental period of at least one semester (six months). For shorter periods of rent (less than a full semester), higher rental costs will be charged for the same room.
