Welcome to the SAFE project online eligibility and risk questionnaire.

This questionnaire is designed to help potential host institutions in:

  • Determining whether the host institution and the researcher meet the eligibility requirements for a SAFE fellowship.
  • Gathering the risk information required for a SAFE application and determining whether the researcher’s risk situation aligns with the risk factors considered by the SAFE project.

If the researcher does not meet one of the eligibility criteria, the questionnaire will automatically stop, and you will receive specific feedback related to the unmet criterion. You may then restart the questionnaire to review a different case.

If all eligibility criteria are fulfilled, you will proceed to the section dedicated to the description of the researcher’s risk situation. Upon completion, you will receive feedback on the suitability of the application for the SAFE project, based on the researcher’s risk situation as described in your responses.  Please note that this questionnaire only evaluates one of the three evaluation criteria (“impact”) considered during the selection process. Even if you receive positive feedback, your host institution application will still have to go through a competitive selection process and meet the standards according to all the SAFE evaluation criteria (“excellence”, “implementation”, “impact”).

Completing this questionnaire requires open and honest communication with the potential fellowship candidates regarding the factors they believe place them at risk. Host institutions are encouraged to request a personal testimony from the researchers, gather more details and supporting documents and conduct interviews, where possible. We strongly recommend that universities check the accuracy of the researchers’ statements and any submitted documentation to the best of their capacity. The questions and guidance provided in this questionnaire can help in gathering relevant information from the researchers.

If your institution chooses to submit an application, you will be required to provide a detailed description of the researcher’s situation, along with any available supporting documentation.
