The cooperation agreement between the University of Kaiserslautern-Landau (RPTU) and our partner higher education institution the Université Sorbonne-Nouvelle (Paris 3) provides for two obligatory summer schools that form an independent intercultural module. The initial summer schools each lasting one week take place in Paris in the first bachelor year, during which all students study at their home university. The second summer school takes place in Landau in the second bachelor year, during which all students study together at the partner higher education institution in Paris.
Both summer schools jointly form an intercultural module that includes a total of 8 ECTS. The module exam comprises three partial exams, whereby in each case a grade is given for the first and the second bachelor degree year. These partial exams relate to the different module events.
Objectives and recognition
In addition to the intensification of intercultural knowledge across both countries, the module’s objective is to promote professionalisation and further development of the students’ (specialist) didactic and teaching skills. This module also provides the opportunity to learn about the university location in each country.
The student assignments in this module are correspondingly diversified: there are varied assignments, ranging from the joint formulation of didactic concepts and lessons to producing introductory videos for new cohorts relating to both locations. The summer schools give the students the opportunity to engage in a week of intercultural, linguistic and personal exchange with their fellow students from the other university location even from the first bachelor degree year.
This intercultural module is reciprocally recognised by both locations based on a grade conversion table, which forms part of the cooperation agreement and can be viewed by students to make the award of grades and grade conversation as comprehensible and transparent as possible. The respective examination office in both Paris and Landau acknowledges recognition of the credit points and grade guaranteed by the cooperation agreement. This recognition process is also monitored by the programme managers and programme coordinators from both countries.
