Curricular assimilation of stays abroad
Curricular assimilation of stays abroad has been at the core of the ProMobiL project since it began in 2019. It involves full recognition of the international academic achievements attained by students – essential for studies abroad without extension of the study period.
Achieving this objective involved the development and elaboration of our ‘Study Guide – Studies Abroad and Recognition’ at the start of the project, together with an intensively structured, individual counselling format for students and teaching staff.

Further development of the recognition database
A follow-up project in 2023–2024 saw the study guide being further developed into a recognition database that is accessible to all students and teaching staff.
This recognition database was produced and is continuously evolving in close cooperation and agreement with the faculties, the module and recognition representatives and the partner higher education institutions. It can be used by the students, module representatives and partner higher education institutions to assist them in drafting their learning agreements.
Filters to simplify use
Filters can be used to search by individual criteria (country, higher education institution, semester, subject, module at PH Heidelberg / partner HEI). The precise comparison of modules and courses and PH Heidelberg’s binding recognition of these international achievements make it possible for all those involved to reliably plan studies abroad at the partner higher education institutions.
In addition to the mentoring of students in ProMobiL, the database is also available to other students who are travelling abroad. The information from their learning agreements can also be registered. This means that the database grows from semester to semester and is a valuable aid in planning studies abroad and is a binding recognition of the students’ achievements when they return.
I had an incredibly wonderful and precious time and am very grateful that I was able to study in the USA for a semester. My achievements were fully recognised and I enjoyed a sensational scholarship from Lehramt.International. I think back fondly to my semester abroad and realise that I’ve developed tremendously in both a personal and an academic capacity. A semester abroad is always a mini adventure with challenges and obstacles, but the positive experiences that I was able to gather are incalculable.Clara Reining, trainee primary school teacher, Heidelberg University of Education

Best grades and demand
Students aspiring to study abroad in the ProMobiL project receive intensive counselling and mentoring before, during and after their study visit. Students are also encouraged to network and can therefore reciprocally support each other. Returning students are most welcome as undergraduate assistants and research assistants in our International Office (Akademisches Auslandsamt).
Ideal preparation
ProMobiL students are very successful at our partner higher education institutions and often return with the best grades. Well selected partner higher education institutions, excellent mentoring at both locations, highly motivated students, the safety net of a full scholarship and recognition of academic achievements are the foundation stones for this success. These future teachers feel that their educational professionalism and intercultural expertise have been significantly bolstered and that they are well prepared for dealing with diversity and cultural heterogeneity in the classroom.
