BIRD Outreach Workshop "Learning for a New Tomorrow: Didactic and media pedagogical approaches for the education of the future”
October 16th 2024, dbb forum berlin

In a world that is developing rapidly due to technological advances and social changes, the education system is also faced with the urgent question: How can we support learning for a new tomorrow and how can the education of the future be shaped?
The event aimed to explore and critically examine approaches and concepts for the design of future education. We discussed how digital technologies can change the way knowledge is imparted and acquired and what new (media) pedagogical methods are needed to accommodate these technological developments.
Participants were invited to join in on interactive discussions and practical exercises to develop visions and strategies for forward-looking education. The overarching aim of the workshops was to systematise problems and make recommendations for action that can support teachers, educational institutions and political decision-makers in shaping a flexible, inclusive and sustainable educational landscape.
By gathering experts from different disciplines, education institutions and sectors, we wanted to take the opportunity of this workshop to set up a platform for the open exchange of ideas and good practices that can help to shape the learning of tomorrow and beyond.
A detailed report on the event, as well as the presentations and visual documentation, can be found here.
The event was held in German and in parts in English. Simultaneous interpreting into both languages has been provided.

How can we bring more innovation and transformation to schools? According to numerous experts, there are various areas that need to be addressed, the foundations of which lie in the educational phase of teachers. There often seems to be a lack of digital skills, intercultural skills and a lack of equal opportunities. The workshop is dedicated to the central challenges and opportunities that schools and teachers are currently facing. Through practice-oriented approaches, the workshop will introduce participants to various ideas and tools, critically scrutinise the educational stages and offer some ideas for a positive, learning-friendly environment. In addition, teaching-learning settings will be explored together and creative formats will be explored. The workshop will be held in German. There will be no interpretation into English provided. Workshop ”Shaping transformation: How does organisational development succeed?” Accompanied by Julia Friedrich and Marina Torgovnik (Institut für Angewandte Informatik, Kompetenzzentrum Künstlich Menschlich Intelligent, Leipzig) Innovations, whether technological or social, bring about changes that organisations of all kinds have to deal with. Results may vary within institutions and are sometimes more and sometimes less successful. The workshop will be held in German. There will be no interpretation into English provided. Workshop “Developing Digital Skills for Teaching in HEIs - an experience from Aalto University”” Accompanied by Karoliina Pakkanen, Suvi Toivonen and Veruscka Xavier Filgueira (Aalto University) This workshop introduces a reflection about digital learning in higher education, presenting an example of a project to develop digital skills for teaching at Aalto University. Digital learning will be discussed in integration with pedagogy and as a support service for teachers. After this session, you will be able to reflect about the role of educational technology applied to your own working context.
