Special features regarding university sports

The university does not have its own sports programme. It is possible to take part in the programme of Hochschulsport Hamburg, the central institution of Hamburg's universities. In Hamburg the university sports programme is a joint service of all the state and state-recognised higher education institutions. Some courses are free of charge, some subject to fees. The central tasks of the university sports programme are: the promotion of sport, movement and health; Courses in popular and competitive sports; Social integration into life and work at higher education institutions, irrespective of origin, culture, ethnicity or gender; promotion of communication between members of the university across departmental & institutional boundaries. Every year, up to 1,400 sports courses, workshops, trips and competitions are organised for around 100 different types of sport.
