Special features regarding the library

Locations: Central library with the Medicine branch library; 30 specialised libraries; Stock: 2,536,188 printed books and journals; 28,954 e-journals; 339 databases (central library); Service: As the central facility of Kiel University, Kiel University Library provides innovative services for research, academic studies and teaching. It is pursuing six strategic goals by 2024: Further development of information provision, expansion of the central library as a learning location, further development of information literacy services, promotion of open access and expansion of publication services, imparting of cultural heritage/services for the digital humanities, services for the state of Schleswig-Holstein. Kiel University Library has been responsible for the national “Specialist Information Service Northern Europe” funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) since 2016.

Special features regarding university sports

The university offers its own sports programme. Students attending the institution can participate in the FH Kiel sports programme. Participation is subject to fees. The programme is open to: Kiel University of Applied Sciences, Muthesius University of Fine Arts and Design, Kiel. The offer includes the largest university sailing centre in Germany in Kiel-Schilksee, as well as its own canoeing and rowing centre. The listed architecture of the sports forum is unique and is located in the middle of the campus landscape of the university.
