Special features regarding teaching

Mechanical engineering-oriented industrial engineer specialising in renewable energies and sustainability; entrepreneurial thinking and behaviour as a frame of mind: business development, from the initial idea to the product; company foundation, leadership and succession. The focus of the training is nevertheless on the engineering science subjects. Innovative teaching methods: business computer simulation, blended learning; Soft skills and team building; Degree programme with vocational and academic elements available; Specialisation in Business Analytics (data science, optimisation and simulation) possible in the 7th semester.

Special features regarding the international orientation

Active support of stays abroad by the dean of studies, course directors, foreign student advisers, and the International Office; 150 partner universities worldwide; Help looking for positions for work placements in companies around the world; Research partnerships with European and international universities and research institutions (e.g. University of Pilsen, Universität Linz, University of Bristol, University of Budapest, University of Limerick, University of Rochester, U.S.A., Dalian University of Technology, China).

Special features regarding the equipment

Students have access to the research laboratories for the Optical Engineering and Mechatronics research groups as well as to the faculty teaching labs, with a computer room for simulations, planning tutorials and exercise on the basic principles of Physics and Mechatronics. The research laboratories are equipped with the latest machines and systems for manufacturing and process development in the fields of Mechatronics, Robotics, Signal Processing in Measurement Technology, Glass Machining and Glass Working. Subject-specific databases (e.g. WISO, EconBiz, Web of Science, Science Direct, NWB database, etc.) and statistical software STATA are available.

Special features regarding research activities

Six technology application and transfer centres in the research areas of Mechatronics, Automation, Digital Manufacturing, Material Development, Optics, High-Frequency Technology and Glass Technology. Innovation Transformation Centre for Start-up Research and Transfer Support. Research labs in the areas of Industry 4.0, precision processing of glass and optoelectronics.

Support for founders

The Innovations Technology Campus ITC2 Deggendorf is in close proximity to the department. The ITC2 is a technology-oriented business park and business incubator. It houses parts of the Technical College Deggendorf and around 30 companies. Students can do internships and complete their final theses there. A number of innovative research projects have produced start-ups by students at the ITC2. To this end, students take the lecture Start-up Management and Business Plan in the 7th semester, given by a professor of Entrepreneurship.

Other special features

With the initiative "Healthy University Deggendorf", the university is implementing a comprehensive concept for health promotion in the setting of a university. To facilitate students' transition to the professional world, the university's Career Service offers application advice and seminars. A first-semester mentoring programme provides initial orientation assistance and facilitates the transition from school to university. For personal or academic problems, there is free and anonymous psychosocial and social counselling available. DigiCamp on the topic of sustainability is offered.
