Special features regarding teaching

Blended learning enables working students in particular to have more flexibility, i.e. to manage their individual workload depending on their professional structures/obligations and learning needs. In selected courses, the problem-based teaching method is used. A continuous perception, reflection and sharpening of the level of competence, competence growth and thus the overall competence profile of the students is achieved as part of a portfolio assignment accompanying studies.

Special features regarding the international orientation

The university of applied sciences has a small allocation of places via Erasmus+, which students can use. In addition, for students of the degree course “Social Welfare Work and Social Work (BA)” in particular, there are funding opportunities e.g. through VEDD (Association of Protestant Deacons and Diaconate Communities in Germany) to support students during stays abroad.

Special features regarding research activities

In cooperation with the Social Work degree courses, the University of Applied Sciences for Social Welfare Work (FH der Diakonie) is currently participating in the SInnAssist research project. SInnAssist is a joint project of the university together with the OWL University of Applied Sciences and Arts in Lemgo and funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research. One focus area is the improved permeability of workshops for people with disabilities in the general labour market through the use of hybrid (technical and HR) assistance services for people with disabilities. The research focus areas closely related to the degree course are Participation and Inclusion.

Other special features

As students, teaching staff and non-teaching staff of the University of Applied Sciences for Social Welfare Work (FH der Diakonie), we see ourselves as an open community who learns from and with each other and promotes and embraces diversity and inclusion. On the basis of this fundamental attitude, we deliberately refrain from a so-called "hardship case regulation", which would assign a special role to applicants with special needs. On the basis of this fundamental attitude, we encourage students to point out their individual needs to us as part of the application process so that together we can find individual solutions.
