Special features regarding teaching

Learning arrangements: Each study group has approx. 30 students and practice- and research-oriented events have approx. 20 students. This ensures in organisational terms that students can study the courses as well as ensuring student motivation, supervision and advice. In addition, the small group size allows for appropriate team building and exchange in the plenum.

Special features regarding the international orientation

In the Bachelor's degree course, there is a compulsory elective module “Social Work in an International Perspective”, which allows students to prepare for a study visit or a work placement. International research projects make it possible to prepare and supervise stays abroad.

Exchange universities for stay abroads

FH Campus Wien, Wien, Österreich; Mykolo Romerio Universitetas, Vilnius, Litauen; Karlstads universitet, Karlstad, Schweden; Hacettepe Üniversitesi, Ankara, Türkei.

Special features regarding the equipment

The university provides computer workstations and licences for specialist and research-specific software (MAX-QDA, SPSS, STATA).

Special features regarding research activities

Students can participate in research and practical projects as part of their studies and/or as student assistants. As a research-oriented faculty, there are a large number of projects and research contexts (e.g. Centre for Planning and Development of Social Services or the Research Training Group “Consequences of Social Assistance”)

Support for founders

Social Work/Education and Social Work students can take advantage of the advisory, coaching and session services provided by the Entrepreneurs’ Office. There are courses with a focus on start-ups and subject-specific advice.

Other special features

There are courses on the topic of diversity and inclusion. Inclusion is a key issue for the faculty as a whole. The university has developed a diversity strategy, which is implemented through events and projects. The degree courses are involved in this. At the University of Siegen, a study certificate "Shaping the future sustainably" can be obtained. The University of Siegen has been named a “Fairtrade University” since November 2018. The university is certified as a family-friendly university and offers childcare during courses and holidays.
