Special features regarding teaching

The degree course in the field of Electrical and Electronic Engineering is characterised by a strong combination of lectures and practical laboratory work. To make it easier for prospective students to choose a degree course, the university offers the startING programme in which students do not yet have to choose a specific engineering subject, but have one semester to learn about the different subject areas. The department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering is plays an important role in the programme.

Special features regarding the international orientation

The Hochschule Offenburg has a large number of partnerships with foreign higher education institutions. There is a trinational programme with Swiss and French partner universities and one dual degree agreement for the Master's area with the University of Grenoble. There are also good ties in the form of student exchange groups with the state engineering school INSA in Strasbourg, Tec de Monterrey in Mexico and Oregon State University, USA.

Special features regarding the equipment

The department has 28 modern laboratories (including Computer Science and Medical Technology laboratories) that are available for teaching as well as research activities. In addition, there are three institutes affiliated with the department, also with state-of-the-art equipment. Many laboratories have been equipped with state-of-the-art equipment thanks to several approved applications for large-scale equipment.

Special features regarding research and development

HS Offenburg is one of the 4 strongest research universities in Baden-Württemberg. The Institute for Unmanned Aerial Systems (IUAS), the Peter Osypka Institute of Medical Technology (POI) and the newly founded Institute for Embedded Systems and Communications Technology (ESK) found at the university are the guarantee for a continuously and impressively high level of third-party funding.

Support for founders

The Career Centre offers students specifically seminars, for example, on topics related to business start-ups and time management, coaching for career entry, rhetoric training, etc.

Other special features

The tri-national bachelor’s degree Electrical engineering/Information Technology 3nat (EI-3nat) offers an engineering degree course in France, Switzerland and Germany. The bilingual course is an excellent preparation for a professional career in these three countries. In 2008, the Stifterverband für die Deutsche Wissenschaft association and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) voted the English-language master's degree in Communication and Media Engineering (CME) one of the ten best international master's degrees in Germany.
