Special features regarding teaching

The faculty gives high priority to a close link between theory and practice. It offers a high proportion of practicals in small groups in modern laboratories, which are optimally adapted to the content of the lectures. A team of young professors with industry experience values direct contact with students, thus providing excellent support. In addition to the teaching of professional skills at a high level, there is also much focus on developing communication and presentation skills. Many e-learning elements complement classroom teaching.

Special features regarding the international orientation

Four international advisers and the university’s International Office help students in their search for practical semesters, final dissertations or study visits abroad. The faculty supports and organises short-term stays abroad such as summer schools or excursions and offers intensive cooperation with STIEI Shanghai, China with regard to internships abroad. Partner universities include Shanghai Normal University (China), Clemson University (USA), Vancouver Island University (Canada), Novia University (Finland) and many more A foreign guest lecturer offers online instruction.

Special features regarding the equipment

State-of-the-art laboratories offer a very high degree of practical relevance, e.g. a hybrid laboratory (fully equipped for all production steps in modern electronics production), automation engineering (cutting-edge in production automation: smart home, security and safety), electric drives and power electronics (test benches with new motors and inverters, research projects for electromobility), robotics laboratory (especially human-robot collaboration), power engineering ...

Special features regarding research and development

The faculty is highly committed in the key research areas of electronics and system integration, production and logistics systems for Industry 4.0, medical technology and energy. Current research areas include printed electronics on textiles, electromobility, innovative electric engines and miniaturised sensors. Internal research projects can also be carried in cooperation with industry at the level of project work and final dissertations. Several academic staff do research in the faculty’s very well-equipped laboratory as part of ‘cooperative doctorates’.

Support for founders

Start-up ambassadors: First contact persons and promoters for founders of start-ups. LINK start-up centre: Broad-based support for start-ups, founders and creative people from the region. Services offered include coaching and advice on start-up topics (e.g. funding programmes), contacts with start-up experts and other start-ups, placements and matching opportunities. Affordable office and coworking spaces are also organised. Landshut University of Applied Sciences Creative Lab: Room for creators; Implementation of Landshut Start-Up Night [Gründernacht]

Other special features

Personal contact with all instructors in a personal atmosphere in small groups of students with a wide variety of current compulsory elective modules are characteristic for the department, as is the updating of the laboratories in view of the requirements of the career world. Intensive and individual student advice and counselling is particularly important to us. Continuous counselling services (e.g. on time and exam management, on the course of studies, on learning difficulties, on support in case of psychological stress...), a wide range of career services for a smooth transition into the world of work.
