Special features regarding teaching

For us, excellent teaching is application-related, research- or science-based, interdisciplinary teaching as well as teaching characterised by internationality and diversity of methods. It is based on the latest scientific findings, which also stem from our own application-oriented research and development. The application orientation of instruction is supported by integrated internships and our students’ practice-oriented project theses and dissertations. Our graduates have sound and broad expertise in their respective disciplines.

Special features regarding the international orientation

The International Office is THE point of contact for international students, teachers and visitors, advising all members of the Kiel University of Applied Sciences on stays abroad and funding opportunities. Kiel University of Applied Sciences cooperates with more than 100 partner universities worldwide, including around 80 within the framework of the EU Erasmus+ programme. The IO works closely with the institutions at its partner universities to implement the exchange. Particularly noteworthy are the partner programme with the Tec de Monterrey’ in Mexico as well as the Sino-German exchange programme.

Special features regarding the equipment

The IuE department at Kiel University of Applied Sciences is an engineering facility equipped with state-of-the-art equipment. Up-to-date equipment enables the latest teaching methods and implementation of the highest research objectives. The following laboratories are mentioned as examples: Competence area in electromobility Schleswig-Holstein (power electronics, intelligent mobility), Digital factory (Industry 4.0), Interdisciplinary laboratory for immersion research (virtual reality, augmented reality), and much more. Library: Free access to literature databases such as Springer Online

Special features regarding research and development

The IuE department is very networked with local industry and a very high level of third-party funding >3.5 MEUR within the last 3 years. The university's own students participate in research projects. Research focuses are: Intelligent Mobility (Own Competence Centre for Electromobility); Sustainable energy (smart grid); Digital factory (research in the field of Industry 4.0); Power Electronics; Maritime technologies (autonomous (sub) marine vehicles); Robotics (research with humanoid robots); AI

Support for founders

The IuE department works closely with institutions to support business start-ups and maintains its own business incubator. This is the first point of contact for all those interested in founding a business on the FH Kiel campus. Students have the option of an initial consultation and joint exchange of foundation experiences, e.g. within the scope of start-up days. WT.SH (Wirtschaftsförderung und Technologietransfer Schleswig-Holstein) is also an important partner in advising and promoting business start-ups.
