Special features regarding teaching

Application-oriented degree course with balanced teaching of practical and theoretical skills; Project work/Bachelor’s thesis/Master’s thesis with predominantly industry-related tasks and practically oriented research projects.

Special features regarding the international orientation

The department maintains contacts with more than 45 partner universities worldwide. This gives students a wide range of opportunities to gain international experience and make contacts during a semester abroad. Some professors teach in partner universities all over the world. There are also international guest lecturers and numerous incomings to enrich the students in the department. The first two semesters of the Electrical Systems Engineering Bachelor’s degree programme can be studied in English.

Special features regarding the equipment

The Department of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology has the following well-equipped labs: Control technology, positioning technology, network technology, image data processing, microcontrollers, digital laboratory, control technology, circuit technology, measurement data processing, high-frequency technology, circuit integration, centre for power electronics.

Special features regarding research and development

Application-oriented research in Industry 4.0; Self-organised routing in networks; Image processing for autonomous vehicles; Development of processes to get figures for encryption algorithms that cannot be reproduced; Autonomous e-mobility; Platform-independent software engineering; Bionic and highly dynamic gripping systems; Robotics applications; Real-time control for robotic systems; Augmented Reality; Wireless sensor technology; Research projects of the Institut für Kraftfahrzeugtechnik und Mechatronik (Institute of Automotive Engineering and Mechatronics).

Support for founders

Since winter semester 2021/22, the Master´s degree programme in Electrical Systems Engineering has focussed on entrepreneurship. In addition, the start-up centre STARTKLAR offers courses and workshops on the topic of start-up and assists students with general start-up questions.

Other special features

Since 2014, students in the department have participated in the Formula Student competition, in which various teams of students compete in international competitions with racing cars they have designed, constructed and built themselves.
