Special features regarding teaching

Our students learn and research in state-of-the-art laboratories, lecture halls and computer rooms, benefit from top international research on the part of our faculty, as well as interdisciplinary contacts with industry, and can draw on a wide offer of advisory and information services. Students are also supported in their career choices thanks to career events and good contacts with our alumni.

Special features regarding the international orientation

Option of an English-language Master’s degree programme on Lasers and Photonics; Numerous opportunities to study abroad; Double Bachelor’s degree with Universidad Nacional de Colombia

Special features regarding the equipment

Approximately 5,000 square metres of ultra-modern laboratory space in a new faculty building. Special spaces – such as an acoustically reflection-free room, a large absorber hall, special laser laboratories and a cleanroom wing – are available for teaching and research. The equipment of lecture halls, seminar rooms and computer pools for students is state-of-the-art.

Special features regarding research activities

Our professors conduct research together with their teams and cover a wide range of topics in addition to the areas of plasma technology and sensor technology, for example in communications technology, power engineering and medical engineering. International top-level interdisciplinary research is carried out with industrial partners as well as in clusters of excellence, Collaborative Research Centres and research departments across faculties and universities. State-of-the-art laboratories and the short distances of a campus university permit the bundling of the various research competencies.

Support for founders

The WORLDFACTORY supports interested parties on their way to setting up their own companies with free advice, seminars, rooms and a taster workshop. www.worldfactory.de. In addition, engineering students have the opportunity to attend courses on business start-ups in the faculty of economics. Furthermore, the Internet Security sub-department offers the ‘Cube 5’ start-up service www.cube-five.de.
