Special features regarding teaching

Individual elective options in Management, Tax / Accounting / Finance, Production and Information Management, International Economics and Business Informatics, illustrated by "job profiles", i.e. exemplary study plans. Large number of international partnerships and generous accreditation of examination results. Combination of forms of learning and teaching in integrated planned modules (no compilation of "submodules"), leading to teaching of fundamental knowledge, exemplary in-depth study and teaching of methodological competence and soft skills in each module.

Special features regarding the international orientation

The department operates an Internationalisation Office that supports incoming and outgoing students equally. For incoming students the process of acclimatisation is facilitated by way of additional courses and events in English. Excursions and other events with a technical, cultural background are offered. Information sessions are provided for outgoing students; selection process is completed at partner universities. The internationalisation office also coordinates the learning process within the faculty.

Special features regarding the equipment

State-of-the art equipment. In addition to modern, well-equipped lecture theatres, campus-wide WiFi coverage, SAP HCC connection with 5 ERP clients & one BI client and hardware offerings on special terms, numerous pool rooms are available. There is also a broad range of options for gaining additional IT skills and certificates through free training. Common software products such as Microsoft Dreamspark Premium can be used free of charge. The notebook café is a point of contact for competent, quick and free IT support for students.

Special features regarding research activities

Research at the department is strongly empirical and application-oriented. However, we are also successful in fundamental research. A feature of specialisation is projects that deal with the opportunities and challenges of digitalisation for companies and society. The individual professorships work closely with one another, with other partners from science and with local companies.

Support for founders

With TecUP, the department has been offering an organisational unit since 2014 that works across faculties for business start-ups at the University of Paderborn and thus acts as an interface between science and business. Through entrepreneurship teaching at the University of Paderborn and various event formats, both scientists and students are supported on their way to founding a company. TecUP stands for good networking and the exchange of startup founders and seasoned entrepreneurs in the region.

Other special features

Economic Sciences offers degree courses with unrivalled career prospects. Efficient study management provides for short study durations. The good relations between companies, research institutes and chairs of the University and the good technical and personnel resources provide excellent conditions for the study of economics. Paderborn is a campus university where everything is close together.
