Special features regarding teaching

The merging of the departments of Architecture and Civil Engineering in Wuppertal into one faculty meets society's demand for more interdisciplinary training in order to promote building culture and improve the outcomes of the added value chain in construction.

Special features regarding the international orientation

The faculty participates in civil engineering in the qualification of the academic teaching staff at the Namibia University of Science and Technology at the university level and has a cooperation arrangement with California Sate University, Fresno.

Special features regarding the equipment

The faculty is setting up a Building Information Modelling (BIM) laboratory for integrated training of architects and civil engineers. Further laboratories include: Building material/concrete laboratory, waste and residential water management laboratory; soil management lab; Laboratory for soil mechanics and soil and foundation engineering; Road construction laboratory; steel construction lab; IKIB testing hall; Hydraulic engineering laboratory, VR laboratory, Digilab, a robot, VR-AR lab, SimLab, and the department has access to the Pleiades cluster computer

Special features regarding research activities

The faculty and the Chair of Construction Management and Economics is involved in numerous research projects in the fields of digitisation, BIM and process management at a national and international level. We have been awarded an endowed professorship in Cycling with a concentration on the role of cycling in international mobility. The Solar Decathlon is an international competition that will be held in Wuppertal. Research projects are very practice-oriented and involve a large number of partners in the field from across the life cycle of the construction and real estate sectors.

Support for founders

The professors are happy to exchange information with graduates. In the Centre for Graduate Studies Career Center, the university offers support in the transition to a career.

Other special features

All teaching is in German. This decision was taken as a conscious step following in-depth analysis. Experience in teaching with large numbers of foreign students with an inadequate command of English has shown that good knowledge transfer is more important that gaining skills in an international context. In elective areas, bilingual course documents are provided in addition or corresponding international sources are used. The content is, however, discussed in German.
