Special features regarding teaching

For all HFT Bachelor's degree courses in Engineering Science, there are consecutive Master's courses. The specialisation in the Bachelor's degree course in Civil Engineering can be pursued in more depth in five Master's courses. In the field of Construction Physics, it is possible to switch to the research-oriented SENCE Master's degree course after completing the Bachelor's degree course. All courses of study are characterised by a high level of practical orientation in teaching, but also in contacts and partnerships in the private sector.

Special features regarding the international orientation

For students of the HFT Stuttgart, there are contacts to over 70 partner universities worldwide. A current list can be found on the website. Depending on the degree course – it is possible to complete the supervised practical study project or a semester abroad.

Special features regarding the equipment

Both in Civil Engineering as well as in Construction Physics, a total of 13 teaching and research laboratories, all with state-of-the-art equipment, are available to students. In addition to compulsory and voluntary laboratory practicals, these facilities offer the opportunity to acquire additional qualifications, e.g. the first part of the training for the international welding engineer. All of the facilities and test benches of the Institute for Applied Research are available with their competent staff to students for final theses.

Special features regarding research and development

There are more than 40 research projects running simultaneously at any one time in the department. The field has grown steadily over the past several years. Students benefit in many ways from these activities: the latest research findings are incorporated directly into teaching, and students are involved in the thought process for demonstration experiments and can be involved as assistants and through their final theses.

Support for founders

‘PLAN G’ is the name of the central point of contact for start-ups and entrepreneurship at HFT Stuttgart. The special part about this: Here, above all, ideas are promoted that can be assigned to an important area of competence of the university, the city of the future.

Other special features

Because numerous instructors work in regulatory and standardization committees, the technical regulations considered are quite up to date and in some cases are already incorporated into instruction prior to their final publication. Numerous short excursions for the individual research areas are carried out in the Stuttgart area, thanks to the very good networking between teaching staff and practitioners. This significantly increases the practical dimension of instruction.
