Special features regarding teaching

Both the Bachelor's degree course in "Civil Engineering" as well as the Master's degree course in "Civil Engineering" are characterised by a wide range of advanced courses which build on broad basic training. Starting in the fifth semester of the Bachelor's degree course and already in the first semester of the Master's degree course, students can choose from a wide range of possible modules and thus gain more in-depth knowledge in different study profiles

Special features regarding the international orientation

Both the bachelor’s and the master's degree include one semester without compulsory courses. This gives students the opportunity to study abroad without delaying their studies. There are good contacts with both international universities and companies. The Foreign Student Advisers support students when planning a study visit abroad. The master's degree in Environmental Engineering includes the English-language specialisation course "Geothermal Energy Systems".

Special features regarding the equipment

The department has very good laboratories with modern equipment for Hydraulic Engineering, Community Water Management, Building Material Technology, Geo-Engineering and Building Physics. The department that belongs to the International Geothermal Centre has excellent, internationally acclaimed equipment to research the most promising technologies to combat global warming. All lecture theatres and seminar rooms are equipped with modern presentation equipment, and there are sufficient workspaces available to students. Students have access numerous subject-specific online databases.

Special features regarding research and development

Almost all institutes of the department are involved in research projects. Students have the opportunity to take modules which combine teaching and research projects during the bachelor’s degree and especially during the master's degree. They can also work as student or scientific assistants in projects. In addition, the department has many contacts with various universities and therefore offers suitable graduates the possibility to pursue a cooperative doctorate.

Support for founders

The university offers a wide range of support for starting your own business

Other special features

The specialisation course "Building Physics and Construction" is unique. This specialisation mainly focuses on the topics of energy efficiency, sound insulation and acoustics, moisture protection and fire protection.
