Special features regarding teaching

Modern teaching and learning formats such as blended learning, inverted classroom, problem-and project-based learning, where specific tasks and projects are worked on in small groups and teams; Research- and application-oriented project seminars; Interdisciplinary Master's theses with intensive, individual supervision (partly in cooperation with industry); High degree of international orientation through compulsory foreign language teaching element (English)and internationally oriented course content

Special features regarding the international orientation

Mostly international students from outside Europe and international teaching staff; Courses are taught exclusively in English. The course content is also international - for example, International Law is dealt with and not German law.

Special features regarding the equipment

At the NIT there is a Design Thinking Room, a Startup Space and access to the TUHH library. In addition, the NIT uses the Turnitin software to optimise the quality of submitted study achievements. Further equipment of the TUHH: Model factory (plan and study production processes in detail); Maritime Logistics State-of-the-art simulation facilities; Learning lab with the latest technical equipment for group work and simulation games (problem-based learning).

Special features regarding research activities

The main focus of research is on technology and innovation management. These are carried out in cooperation with the Dean's Office for Management Sciences and Technologies at the TUHH and often in cooperation with industrial partners.

Support for founders

In the MyProject area, teams of 3-4 NIT students work on their innovation project (business development project). Coached and directed by our experienced lecturers (professors / experts), the international teams view their business development idea from all sides and develop a comprehensive innovation and business concept for their project idea, including the planning of the most important steps of market entry. Start-ups are provided with office space free of charge, financing and funding opportunities are presented and arranged and business founders receive coaching.

Other special features

Since 1999, NIT has offered students a double degree option in public-private partnership with Hamburg University of Technology. Students can combine an Engineering degree with a degree course in Business Administration and graduate with two academic degrees simultaneously (MSc in an Engineering subject and MBA or Master's). This privately organised, practice-oriented programme is sponsored by industry through the provision of scholarships and is aimed at exceptionally qualified Bachelor's graduates. Sustainability is part of the curriculum, students are internationally diverse and have an open worldview.
