Special features regarding teaching

The architecture degree is a modern course which includes contemporary contents and appropriate teaching. External teaching staff provide insights into special current subject areas. Practical application is an important part of the teaching. Through the research focus on wood, solid construction and smart systems which are covered by the curriculum, contacts are established with companies and institutes and students are closely involved in projects. Student participation ensures intensive dialogue between teaching staff and students.

Special features regarding the international orientation

Project collaborations with British, Belgian, Chinese and Austrian universities. Summer schools in China and Taiwan. Students from the neighbouring countries of Luxembourg, Belgium and France provide internationality. Excursions, workshops and practicals in London, Copenhagen, Italy, Spain, Austria, Switzerland, Taiwan, China and the USA. We actively support students to spend a guest semester at one of our international partner universities and we recognise their academic achievements there.

Special features regarding the equipment

Plotting 24/7; Computer centre with sufficient PCs and all the necessary programs

Special features regarding research and development

The architecture department carries out its own research activities in the field of digital manufacturing methods. This development is currently based on a 1.0 W3 research professorship with a focus on timber construction. In addition, there is a joint research initiative with the sociology faculty of the University of Trier. The department cooperates with the University of East London and the Vienna University of Technology in the international research project "Kapital Architektur". The endowed professorship Solid Construction does research and development in the field of brick shell construction and textile-reinforced concrete.

Other special features

Annual continuing-education event for architects; "Holzbaugespräch" event for the wood teaching and research field, wood competence centre Trier; "Werkberichte-Architekten" (architects work reports); Regular lecture series on specific topics during the semester. Student involvement in research work is promoted and supported. Doctoral students are supervised in collaboration with other universities such as the University of Luxembourg.
