Special features regarding teaching

The Department of Architecture and Design includes 9 degree programmes combining the core competencies of building in a single place. The professors have many years of practical experience in renowned architectural and planning offices or companies in the construction and design industry. In addition to their professorships, many members of the faculty also remain constantly active in the field. Individual semester cohorts ensure cohesion among students, with many exercises and projects conducted in groups. This ensures extensive personal supervision on the part of the teaching staff.

Special features regarding the international orientation

Organised student exchange with numerous partner universities is part of our study programme. About a third of our students spend at least one semester abroad during the course. In addition, regular cooperative projects are conducted with students of our partner universities, for example with the University of Hong Kong (Architecture and Urban Planning), and the University in Kyoto (Architecture/Facility Engineering/Urban Planning/Interior Design). Our students acquire foreign languages here as well as strong teamwork and organisational skills.

Special features regarding the equipment

The university is fully networked and additionally equipped with numerous WiFi access points in all buildings. The HFT-Stuttgart network is linked to the high-performance data network of the German state of Baden-Württemberg. In addition, there is the laboratory for daylight planning, photo and film studio, PC rooms, printing and plotting service, model-building workshop, laser cutting service, workshop interior architecture, materialSTUDIO. Databases are available through the library at HFT.

Special features regarding research and development

The Institute of Applied Research (IAF) is divided into two research focuses with a total of nine competence centres and new research fields. Key research area 1: Energy-efficient buildings & sustainable urban development; Key research area 2: Technologies for spatial data and simulation

Support for founders

There is a central start-up service at the university for this purpose.

Other special features

Various partnerships give our architecture students the opportunity to experience and practice interdisciplinary cooperation, such as with the degree courses Climate Engineering and Interior Design.
