The department offers an interdisciplinary and unique constellation in the German university landscape. Specifically, since 2011, the social, spatial and artistic interfaces between the works of many researchers have led to an increasingly productive dynamic in research and teaching.

Special features regarding research activities

Glass construction; Historical building research, projects in a regional and local context; ‘International Society of Architecture and Philosophy’ research in the theory of architecture; ‘IPE-International Planning and Building’ questions of sufficiency in the built environment in an international context; Interface research to other disciplines: Social space research, art in the public space or in the educational sciences. Small cities: Regional poles and village development; Local built educational landscapes; Sustainable urban planning internationally

Other special features

Admission to the BA course requires proof of a practical activity of at least 8 weeks. This work placement generally has to be completed before commencement of studies. Otherwise, proof is to be provided as soon as possible, or at the latest by the beginning of the third semester. Relevant training or professional activities are taken into account, as well as the acquisition of the specialised secondary school entrance qualification in the relevant subject area.
