Special features regarding teaching in the bachelor's degree programme

Our teaching is characterized by a high degree of participation. We involve students in the design, development and, most importantly, improvement of the courses. Thanks to comprehensive university-level didactic training, students can expect to receive skill-oriented teaching that helps them develop and goes well beyond merely imparting knowledge. Teaching is also state-of-the-art, and digital and AI tools, for example, are, of course, integrated. Our courses show sensitivity to diversity and have a focus on sustainability.

Special features regarding research activities

One focus of our research projects is on digitalisation/digitality, artificial intelligence and sustainability. This means we address key issues in our society and examine them from the perspectives of social inequality, social change and intersectionality.

Other special features

One of the main areas of sociology in Paderborn is research on diversity/intersectionality and sustainability. Research projects in both areas are ongoing. The department has an intensive cooperation with the Gender Centre and the Sustainability Working Group of the University of Paderborn. Our teaching is characterised by diversity sensitivity and focuses on sustainability.
