The Sociology Department in Koblenz is characterised by research and practice-oriented teaching. The Studium Generale, profile and practical modules and electives enable individual specialisation and profile development, and prepare students for a career or for further study in a Master's degree programme.

Durch die zum Jahresbeginn 2023 erfolgte Trennung der Universitäten Koblenz und Landau sind organisatorische Bereiche teils im Neuaufbau. Sociological research in Koblenz is thematically as well as methodologically broad and interdisciplinary and takes place with international and nationwide cooperation partners within externally funded research projects.

The cross-cutting topic of digitalisation is very present throughout the university and is further increased by the start of the Computational Social Science degree course. In addition, the topic is taken up in a separate module as part of the key competence courses in the profile area. Gender Studies degree programme will be further strengthened by a offering a certificate. The key competence courses now include the newly developed module on interculturality. A module on the topic of sustainability is currently being developed.
