Special features regarding teaching in the bachelor's degree programme

Sociology in Dresden is particularly interested in cultural phenomena (in a broad sense), and pursues a pluralistic approach in sociological theories. There is comprehensive quantitative and qualitative methodological training, macro-sociology and micro-sociology (with a focus on techno-social interaction). The subject of Sociology as a 1st main subject can be combined with the following 2 main subjects: Evangelical or Catholic theology, history, art history, philosophy, social sciences, English/American studies, German studies, classical philology, Romance studies, Slavic studies.

Special features regarding teaching in the master's programmes

The degree course is consecutive and is divided into a sociological core (60 CPs) and a specialisation (30 CPs). The fourth semester is for writing the Master's thesis (30 credit points). In the core sociological area (first and second semesters), students expand, deepen and hone their specialist knowledge acquired during the bachelor's degree programme; they also carry out a two-semester research project. Three specialisations are offered in the core area: Modern cultures, social inequality, and interaction and communication.
