Special features regarding teaching in the bachelor's degree programme

The subject-specific modules are all taught by lecturers from the respective departments (Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Physics, and Pharmacy). There are specific modules and, in particular, internships for biochemistry and molecular biology students only. In Kiel, great emphasis is placed on an equal balance of biology, chemistry and biochemistry.

Special features regarding teaching in the master's programmes

In the Master's degree programme curriculum, there are only 25 credit points of compulsory modules. The compulsory elective area comprises 65 CP (not counting the master's thesis), from over 50 elective modules from a wide variety of disciplines and topics. In Kiel, working groups from the clinic make up a very high proportion of the available elective modules. This enables students to create very individualised majors and offers a very wide range of methods, hypotheses, and thus research work.

Exchange universities for stay abroads

Repräsentative Partnerhochschulen, an die viele Studierende entsendet werden (Ranking); Universidad de Cadiz (ES); University of Bergen (NO); Università degli studi di Bologna (IT); University of Malta (MT); University of Gothenburg (Schweden); Université de Bretagne Occidentale, Brest (FR); Universidade de Lisboa (PT); Universidad de La Laguna, Tenerife (ES); Charles University in Prague (CZ); Universität Wien (AT)

Special features regarding the equipment

The technical equipment for practical exercises and laboratory practicals is kept up to date. The individual work areas have state-of-the-art equipment. In the context of research collaborations, students have access to major national and international large-scale research institutions (e.g. DESY Hamburg, CSSB Hamburg, BESY II Berlin, ESRF Grenoble).

Special features regarding research activities

Through a cooperation agreement between the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences and the Faculty of Medicine, the bachelor's and master's degree programmes in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology are joint degree programmes of both faculties. This organisation ensures that students can participate in all research projects in the life sciences.

Other special features

No subject-specific distinctions are made here. The CAU has a commitment that spans the entire campus and campus life.
