Special features regarding teaching in the master's programmes

Practical training is prioritised in the Master's degree programme in Materials Chemistry. In the first two semesters, the students are taught a wide range of synthesis methods as well as their comprehensive characterization with instrumental methods in small groups at the chairs. This is followed by the research internship in which the students participate in the ongoing scientific research of one of the participating working groups.

Special features regarding the equipment

The IfP is housed in two research facilities and a lecture hall building. In 2020, the MRM moved into a new building with integrated seminar rooms and a lecture hall. The IfP is optimally equipped with numerous large-scale devices for spectroscopy, material synthesis and analysis in the fields of Synthesis, Characterisation and Development of New Materials. In addition, licences for ICSD and SciFinder are available to the students.

Special features regarding research activities

The research focus at the Institute is in the field of condensed matter. In materials chemistry, the focus is particularly on porous materials, photonic materials, materials for energy storage and functional catalytic materials. In addition to the Centre for Electronic Correlation and Magnetism, other focal points are nanotechnology, materials research and chemical physics.

Other special features

The transfer point of the institute, the Anwenderzentrum Material- und Umweltforschung (Application Centre for Material and Environmental Research), maintains close contacts with industry. The connections help graduates start their careers in companies in the region.
