Special features regarding teaching

Teaching focuses on practical relevance, individual support and internationality. This is realised, among other things, by experienced professors; A maximum group size of 85 students for lectures and 20 for exercises and computer labs; Integration of real practice projects and simulation games; Broad basic education with numerous specialisation options; Consistent education in languages and key skills; Industry experts are brought on board; An explicitly desired and supported period of study abroad.

Special features regarding the international orientation

htw saar has academic collaborations worldwide. For Economics alone, students have access to more than 150 places at 78 universities in 34 countries to study abroad. In addition to university agreements, there are double degree programmes in 3 degree courses. 3 degree courses include a compulsory semester abroad. Comprehensive advice and support for students is provided within a network comprising deans of studies, the International Office, professors as mentors and administration. This is promoted in the curriculum by compulsory language and intercultural courses.

Special features regarding the equipment

Two computer labs with all MS Office products, incl. MS Project and MS Visio; Software for Monte Carlo simulations; various SAP modules; Software such as DATEV, Lexware and ARIS and a lab for occupational sciences are available. The lecture halls are state-of-the-art. The language centre has a language lab. A modern library with reference-only stock and extensive electronic resources (e-books, e-journals and academic databases) are also available. E-learning and digital tools in teaching and for students are standard.

Special features regarding research activities

Research fields, topics and focus areas are: Centre for SMEs for the integration of issues relating to small and medium-sized enterprises into research and teaching; The Research Area for Occupational Sciences; The Integration of ERP Systems in SMEs; Social Media Applications in Companies; Participation in the research projects of the other faculties such as Electrical Engineering, Computer Science and Mechanical Engineering (e.g. Electromobility); Projects on the topic of Healthy Ageing at Work; Entrepreneurship Education; Research partnerships with universities in Eastern Europe.

Support for founders

The university's unique incubator "Gründungsschmiede" provides advice/coaching, also on spin-offs, jobs, networking opportunities and events such as "Business Idea Slam". The Career Service also supports start-ups with special seminars and coaching. The "Centre for SMEs" organises fairs/networking meetings. Start-up courses such as "Practice of Setting up a Business" and "Start-up-oriented Business Administration" are integrated into teaching. We are also collaboration partners of dresden exists; Network of regional chambers, initiatives and universities.

Other special features

The University of Applied Sciences Dresden (HTW) offers a compact campus in an attractive, convenient location in the heart of Dresden close to the main train station. The faculty enjoys close relationships with SMEs as well as with international partners in research, teaching and practice. In addition, events on current topics (e.g. sustainability, internationalisation, SMEs) are organised, including summer schools, lecture series, presentations. A social commitment to shaping the university, the city and social life is also possible and desirable as part of student committees.
