Special features regarding teaching

The modules at SRH are taught according to the unique CORE principle, which takes into account the latest findings in learning and transfer research and is characterised by a particular focus on skills and an intensive learning unit. All modules have a result-oriented structure and are taught in small groups with close contact to the teaching staff. The methods used are diverse and encourage students to work independently, and the assessment methods also reflect this diversity.

Special features regarding research activities

SRH North Rhine-Westphalia University of Applied Sciences conducts interdisciplinary research at the interface between humans and technology on current and practical topics and incorporates these into its teaching. The project "Future Geriatrics – networked and digital" can be mentioned here as an example. This shows, among other things, the possibility of social participation by elderly people through the use of modern technologies. Specifically, as part of a sub-project, residents of retirement homes are to participate directly in multimedia at an opera at Dortmund Opera House through the use of Smart Glasses.

Support for founders

Since 2010, the SRH Start-up Institute has set itself the goal of actively pursuing the topic of business start-ups. The Start-up Institute was set up for this purpose and operates on the following three levels: Teaching, support and networks. We are happy to advise students on how to turn their ideas into profitable, sustainable business concepts. In addition, if necessary, we provide support during the challenging start-up phase.

Other special features

By evaluating the carbon footprint of the workforce and by supporting two sustainability projects in India and Peru, the university was one of only a few universities in Germany to achieve "climate-positive" status. SRH now also supports and is involved in moorland restoration in the Diepholzer Moorniederung nature area. As another project, SRH is sponsoring a bee colony. Bees are the main pillar of our ecosystem.
