Special features regarding teaching

The department offers a wide array of study subjects along the value chain. In particular, the fields of biosystems engineering and telematics are unique in the region. A host of demonstrators, a learning factory and a variety of laboratories make interdisciplinary teaching possible.

Special features regarding the international orientation

Many exchange projects (Erasmus+) are carried out in the department every year. More than 50 partners abroad are actively connected to the faculty. The degree programmes shown involve concrete cooperation with, among others: Togo (West Africa), Israel, China, Cuba, Brazil, Europe (Poland, Netherlands, Great Britain)

Special features regarding the equipment

Over the past seven years, more than EUR 7 million has been invested in the faculty in an effort to provide students and teachers with a basis for digitalisation, surface qualification and various logistical applications. In particular, there is an essential focus on image processing and artificial intelligence.

Special features regarding research and development

The faculty is one of the six research areas of the university. Key elements of the subject area are: Cyberphysical Production System Design; Image processing systems; Artificial Intelligence; Robotics; Autonomous Systems; Development of distributed control solutions; Supporting start-ups

Support for founders

There is an entrepreneurship environment. The university’s start-up service provides not only space but also advisory services for founders of start-ups. ‘Buddies’ assist with the founding of start-ups. The laboratories are also available to founders of start-ups. In particular, the following should be noted: ViNN:Lab (krativlabor); Technical:Lab in the StartINN project (BMBF-funded); https://www.startinn.de/; https://www.startinn.de/index.php/labs/techlab/
