Special features regarding teaching

The Department of Architecture and Design includes 9 degree programmes combining the core competencies of building in a single place. The professors have many years of practical experience in renowned architectural and planning offices or companies in the construction and design industry. In addition to their professorships, many members of the faculty also remain constantly active in the field. Individual semester cohorts ensure cohesion among students, with many exercises and projects conducted in groups. This ensures extensive personal supervision on the part of the teaching staff.

Special features regarding the international orientation

There are no special features for the degree course. The university’s international activities are centrally organised by the International Academic Office. As part of the external study project in the 5th semester, students can spend a semester abroad at a partner university (or as a freelancer at a freely chosen university), or complete an office internship abroad.

Special features regarding the equipment

The university is fully networked and additionally equipped with numerous WiFi access points in all buildings. The HFT-Stuttgart network is linked to the high-performance data network of the German state of Baden-Württemberg. In addition, there is the laboratory for daylight planning, photo and film studio, PC rooms, printing and plotting service, model-building workshop, laser cutting service, workshop interior architecture, MaterialSTUDIO. Databases are parovided via the HFT library.

Special features regarding research and development

The Institute of Applied Research (IAF) is divided into two research focuses with a total of nine competence centres and new research fields. Key research area 1: Energy-efficient buildings & sustainable urban development; Key research area 2: Technologies for spatial data and simulation

Other special features

Various partnerships give students the opportunity to experience and practice interdisciplinary cooperation, such as with the degree courses Architecture and Interior Design.
