Further information provided by the department

Special features regarding teaching

The aim of the Bachelor´s degree course is to provide students a broad and solid overview of the subject of psychology, to learn about current research topics and to be able to critically assess these, as well as to acquire scientific skills for the preparation of written works. At the advanced level of study, the focus shifts to topics of application. The academic-methodological focus teaches students a wide range of methodological knowledge, as well as techniques of scientific work and good scientific practice.

Special features regarding the international orientation

HMU offers students the opportunity to spend one semester studying abroad. The International Office offers information events about partner universities, financial and organisational questions and has language courses in preparation.

Special features regarding the equipment

There are fully equipped research laboratories at HMU available to students of psychology; these can be used to carry out scientific studies but also within the scope of their degree programme. Students here have access to a library with several thousand books. The entire E-Book stock at HMU comprises approx. 13,000 titles in our ‘MiliBib’ E-Book platform.

Special features regarding research activities

The profile of the HMU is characterised by a consistently interdisciplinary and interprofessional approach to teaching, research and academic continuing education. Under the umbrella of interdisciplinary health research, we understand research as the cooperation between health economists, psychologists, lawyers, pedagogues, physicians, social scientists, health and natural scientists, as well as other related disciplines and a possible integrative perspective on the subject of health and medicine.

Support for founders

The Career Center supports students and graduates from the beginning of their studies to the transition from studies to professional life and beyond, through individual application advice, but also information discussions about possible work areas and career fields. The BSP Founders’ Campus at our BSP University of Applied Sciences advises and accompanies students from consideration of ideas to development of business plans to founding and financing of a start-up. To advance entrepreneurial thinking and behaviour, student enterprises are explicitly promoted on the start-up campus.
