Special features regarding teaching

Studying in small groups: Currently, group size is limited to approx. 40 participants in lectures per cohort, and approx. 10-12 participants in internships and project planning simulations. Practical relevance: especially for companies in construction planning, joint use of university auditoriums at the university’s Schönaustraße location is possible with the engineering office located there. Numerous practical lectures by the civil engineers based there enrich the courses held there in topics such as structural design and engineering.

Special features regarding the international orientation

Stays abroad are possible in the 5th or 7th semester (practical semester or bachelor thesis); Cooperation and lecturer exchange (including the design of digital teaching formats) with the California State Polytechnic University, Pomona, USA; Exchange of students, lecturers and researchers with Universidad La Laguna, Spain

Special features regarding the equipment

Many existing modern technical laboratories from related engineering courses are currently in use; numerous laboratories specific to civil engineering are currently being set up; Access to many technical databases (e.g. norms, e-books, specialist journals); Library with 24-hour access to extensive range of specialist literature

Special features regarding research and development

Currently, the focus of the Department of Civil Engineering is on the structure of teaching. With increasing enrichment through the appointment of the already assigned professors, research areas are systematically identified and research projects are pursued.

Support for founders

Business start-ups by students in engineering have always been an essential pillar of our society. That is why the department is particularly committed to supporting students who want to establish a start-up. The function of the department’s own start-up ambassador, who uses examples to explain the steps, opportunities and risks involved in establishing a company, but also offers individual advice, keeps this topic firmly anchored in the department.

Other special features

According to the Bavarian Industrial Construction Association, the Landshut region in Germany has by far the highest proportion of employees subject to social security contributions in the construction industry as a share of the total workforce. This makes establishing and strengthening the degree programme in civil engineering at Landshut University of Applied Sciences the logical outcome of an immense need for well-trained specialists. The need is also manifested in a specialist advisory board made up of personalities from the regional construction industry, which accompanies the establishment and expansion of the degree programme.
