Special features regarding teaching

Particularly important is the CORE principle (Competence Oriented Research & Education), which systematically involves students in research and practice projects. Certificate programme such as the Siemens Mechatronic Systems Certification Program give students additional qualifications in digital industrial applications and standards. Early contacts with the business community through regular excursions to industrial trade fairs and firms give students insights into practice and prepare them systematically for the demands of their career.

Special features regarding the international orientation

Specifically, there are currently no partners for this degree course, and no Erasmus projects or the like. The network of partner universities (in the field of mechatronics) is currently being further developed and expanded.

Special features regarding the equipment

The School of Technology has 7 laboratories: Mechatronics, Renewable Energy, Automation/Robotics, Automotive, Environmental Lab and Recycling, Biomass Lab and an IT Lab. All laboratories can be used by the students for internships and their own research/development projects under the guidance of the university instructors. Special software for statistics (R, SPSS), modelling (Matlab), CAD (Siemens NX), additive manufacturing, team centres, etc., offer a wide range of technical applications and simulations.

Special features regarding research and development

The School of Technology cooperates with non-university research fields, networks and companies. For example, Master’s theses are conducted in cooperation with Fraunhofer Institutes or the Forschungszentrum Jülich (research centre). Collaborative doctoral projects are carried out as part of research projects with third-party funding from the BMBF. The School of Techn. is a member of the ‘Mobility Goes Additive’ network and the ‘EU Tech Chamber’. Students with very good theses have an opportunity to publish their results and present them at international conferences.

Support for founders

SRH Berlin University of Applied Sciences operates its own Startup Lab, which is available to students from all schools and systematically facilitates start-ups through specific seminars, coaching, contact exchanges, innovation hubs, idea festivals, etc. Furthermore, start-up research and theory-practice transfer projects are carried out in the ‘Grenke Center for Entrepreneural Studies’ and accompanied by appropriate measures. The annual Grenke Festival with awards for the best start-up ideas is a highlight at the university.

Other special features

The special features mentioned above promote interdisciplinarity in instruction and research. It is also worth pointing out that the degree programmes in the School of Technology explicitly address the topic of in specific modules. This way, students can assess and apply modern technologies in the context of current global and social developments and develop sustainable solutions in response to customer-specific requirements and scientific issues.
