Special features regarding teaching

The innovative teaching-learning concept of the model degree course conveys medical skills in interdisciplinary, organ and topic-centred modules in direct relation to professional practice. It addresses the needs of different types of learners and promotes self-directed learning. The degree programme allows a choice between different specializations and focuses on forward-looking topics, such as interdisciplinary work, outpatient medicine, gender and diversity as well as digitalisation.

Special features regarding research activities

The research profile "Medicine for People with Disabilities and Chronic Diseases" of the OWL Faculty of Medicine comprises the two research focuses "Brain – Impairment – Participation" and "Intelligent Systems – Assistance – Interprofessional Networking" as well as the two perspective fields "Microbial Diversity in the Human Habitat" and "Data Science for Medical Care". Gender- and diversity-sensitive medicine is anchored across the board. A network of research practices is being set up to promote research activities in the outpatient sector.

Other special features

The model degree course in Medicine offers students the option of completing the supplementary Bachelor's degree of Interdisciplinary Medical Sciences (BSc) in just one additional semester. Based on their individual strengths and interests, students can choose one of five medicine-related interdisciplinary profiles (Diversity, Health, Care / Medical Humanities / Molecular Medicine / Psyche, Language, Communication / MedicalTechnology), which they complete over the first six semesters. The additional seventh semester is used to prepare a bachelor's thesis in the relevant subject area.
