Special features regarding teaching in the bachelor's degree programme

The initial study phase of the degree course makes it possible for students to become familiar with all of the degree courses offered in Faculty 1 at HTW. The mutual eligibility of the basic subjects for recognition is guaranteed across all degree courses. There is also a great deal of variability in the compulsory elective courses. The proportion of practical laboratory exercises and practice projects is high. The studies are also supported by bridge courses in person and online, tutorials, mentoring in the first semester and final phase, accompanying courses on academic writing, time management, etc.

Special features regarding teaching in the master's programmes

The Master's degree programme in CE is characterised by a strong focus on practice and particularly well-equipped laboratories. Close cooperation with companies and non-university institutions allows for challenging practice projects and interesting master's theses. The small semester sizes at a HAW guarantee a good student-teacher ratio and good cooperation within the semesters.

Special features regarding the international orientation

The department offers the international Master's degree "DREAM" and supports stays abroad both in the mobility semester and in the internship phase.

Exchange universities for stay abroads

Seoul National University of Science and Technology (SeoulTech), Metropolia University of Applied Sciences, Università di Bologna, Reykjavik University, Seoul National University of Science and Technology (SeoulTech); Universidad Internacional, Linnaeus University, Oslo Metropolitan University, Kwantlen Polytechnic University

Special features regarding the equipment

Very good laboratory equipment overall; Five degree complex laboratories (Physics, Materials, Measurement Technology, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Computer Science) for all degree courses and 20 basic laboratories; Lab use possible and advisable outside of the courses possible within the scope of project work.

Special features regarding research and development

Faculty 1 is very strong in research and, with its specialisations and networks, provides an introduction to relevant and highly topical subjects during the degree course.

Other special features

The department is integrated in the largest of Berlin's universities of applied sciences with a wide range of degree programmes from technology, economics and computer science to design and culture, offering many unusual opportunities for interdisciplinary studies. The department is located on the Wilhelminenhof campus in the district of Treptow-Köpenick in Oberschöneweide in southeast Berlin, and is situated directly on the River Spree in a former industrial area steeped in history.
