Special features regarding teaching

The economic part of the university describes itself as the 'Entrepreneurship University' and tries very deliberately to combine university theory with entrepreneurial practice - with lecturers who know the reality of the company very well and thus teach about concrete examples and enliven exciting case studies.

Special features regarding the international orientation

The growing importance of international exchange and the consideration of intercultural skills are underlined by the explicit offer of corresponding courses in the respective curricula of the individual degree courses. In addition, there are mandatory stays abroad in most courses. Our university has a strong international orientation, both in terms of its teaching staff and its student body. In the winter semester 2022/23, around 90% of the first-year students came from abroad.

Exchange universities for stay abroads

London Metropolitan University, London, UK; Northumbria University, Newcastle, UK; University of California, Santa Barbara, Santa Barbara, USA; University of the Sunshine Coast, Sippy Downs, QL, Australien; Hong Kong Baptist University, Hong Kong, China; Dublin Business School, Dublin, Irland; ISCTE, Lissabon, Portugal; Universidad San Pablo, Madrid, Spanien.

Special features regarding the equipment

The university has a small library with course reserves of the important basics; The trained librarian enables anyone interested to get a professional introduction to the most important digital databases. It also has VR labs, audio and video labs, a social media war room in Hamburg, as well as PC clusters and rental options for cameras, laptops, etc.

Special features regarding research activities

Application-oriented research is an elementary component of practice-oriented teaching, which is a hallmark of the UE's educational model. At the heart of our research is the concept of "human-centred innovation". Human in this context means ethical, sustainable and experience-oriented. For the UE, this means pursuing an interdisciplinary and agile research strategy that adapts to market requirements and enables innovative combinations of research content. We make our research as open as possible through the development of the UE publisher.

Support for founders

In the extra-curricular training there is a student department 'ConsAltona', which carries out the first small consulting projects for companies. The expertise of the individual degree programmes is a particularly welcome addition to start-up discussions. In addition, the Career Centre also offers regular workshops on business start-ups and corresponding specialist lectures.

Other special features

At the Hamburg campus, there is a Diversity Task Force that brings together an interdisciplinary team of staff (administration and professors) spanning the faculties. Students and staff can turn to the Task Force in the event of discrimination. All cases are taken care of. Any form of discrimination is condemned at the UE and appropriate action will be taken.
