Special features regarding teaching

With its study offer, Baden-Württemberg Cooperative State University (DHBW) Heilbronn has become the number one address for young talent in the Heilbronn region. In the Business Administration degree courses in Commerce, Service Management, Food Management and Digital Commerce Management and, since 2019, in Wine Technology Management and, since 2020, also in Business Information Systems, almost 1,500 students are currently learning in small groups of no more than 30 students with close support from their professors and lecturers. As an active designer of Heilbronn, the city of knowledge, the DHBW Heilbronn is located on a modern city centre campus and has a state-of-the-art laboratory centre, the DHBW Sensoricum.

Special features regarding the international orientation

When selecting the international partner universities, it is important to prepare students from both universities for a professional activity for the target markets of the respective country and to convey the importance of intercultural understanding for international cooperation. Important pillars of the internationalisation strategy at DHBW Heilbronn are short programmes, international undergraduate students, courses taught in English on campus and various multinational research projects, especially student and lecturer exchanges.

Exchange universities for stay abroads

Dublin Business School (DBS), Irland, Universidad Pablo de Olavide, Sevilla; Spanien, Durban University of Technology (DUT), Südafrika, Sookmyung Women’s University Südkorea, Universidad de Chile, Chile Nanyang Polytechnic, Singapur University California Riverside (UCR), USA Universität Belgrad, Serbien The Hague University, Niederlande California State University, Los Angeles

Special features regarding the equipment

In the DHBW Sensoricum, a wide variety of practical tests on purchasing and consumer behaviour can be analysed. There are various laboratories available: Sensor, culinary and hygiene laboratory as well as service, consumer and media lab. Different programmes for business simulation are in use. Students can use programmes for surveys (Unipark) and their evaluation (SPSS) at any time. The lecture rooms are equipped with the latest technology, for example with smartboards. Digital flipcharts can be used. Hybrid teaching possible in every lecture hall thanks to new technical equipment.

Special features regarding research activities

Since its foundation, the University of Applied Sciences Baden-Württemberg (DHBW) Heilbronn has been successful in the field of research. A special role is played by educational research, in which the young location has already been able to win numerous Europe-wide and internationally funded projects and often acts as a consortium leader. Another important aspect of research at DHBW Heilbronn is the dovetailing with the study profiles and the core competence in food.

Support for founders

The dual study model does not focus on founding a company, but rather on the subject of intrapreneurship. In lectures, but also on a voluntary basis, the topic of entrepreneurship is addressed. Students are able to work for companies on campus to practise what they have learned (Culinary Coffee, Culinary HNY (honey from our own bees on the educational campus), ShopBox). In addition, there are opportunities for exchange and support in a variety of ways from the campus founders who work across universities on the topic of Start-ups on the education campus.

Other special features

The DHBW Heilbronn is located on a modern and dynamic inner city campus together with other universities and offers its students an attractive and innovative learning environment with a state-of-the-art library (LIV), a new cafeteria and a diverse range of university sports. There are also public transport tickets tailored to the semester schedule as well as a top-class Studium Generale. Previews and exhibitions in the rooms of the university, an annual Advent concert and a theatre flat rate complete the offer. There is a specially set up Green Office at Baden-Württemberg Cooperative State University (DHBW) Heilbronn.
