Further information provided by the department

Special features regarding teaching

Theoretical skills are applied in exercises with small groups and put into practice in laboratories using test set-ups. The link between research projects and project work and final theses means that students can apply their knowledge in industry-related applications. The teaching staff coordinate their teaching content, which ensures balanced, interdisciplinary training in line with the latest findings in technology and science.

Special features regarding the international orientation

The technology department promotes intercultural knowledge transfer through cooperation agreements with 25 universities worldwide. Our degree courses are attended by foreign students from other European countries and from further afield such as China, Indonesia and India. In addition, many students at the Trier University of Applied Sciences take advantage of the opportunity to spend one or two semesters abroad. This includes attending courses and taking part in research projects while working on projects or final dissertations at foreign universities.

Special features regarding the equipment

The teaching laboratories and research projects have access to good technical equipment, such as a complete industrial production plant for electronic circuits, which allows students to learn how to develop circuits all the way to series production readiness. Another example is the laboratory for radar technology and optical systems (LaROS), which is equipped with a broad spectrum of measurement technology and software.

Special features regarding research and development

Students apply their knowledge in ongoing research projects, which is a good opportunity for them to gain practical experience. This is done in the context of relevant project work and final dissertations as well as by participating in research groups as student assistants. The research areas range from artificial intelligence and medical technology to the development of innovative drive concepts for energy-efficient vehicles (proTRon team).

Support for founders

Students are encouraged to carry out project work and final theses on their own project ideas. This allows them to implement your own ideas without much personal risk. Students who then decide to continue with their own development are supported in applying for start-up grants. Any work carried out as part of the start-up grant can be done on university premises and using university equipment.

Other special features

In addition to the dual Bachelor´s degree course in Electrical Engineering, there is also the possibility of doing a dual Bachelor´s degree course in the other subjects of the department, even if these are not specifically designed to be. This also applies to the master's degree in Electrical Engineering.
