Special features regarding teaching

Because of the small number of students, there is an excellent tutor-student ratio. Students are regularly involved in shaping how they are taught, in organisational matters and in adapting the modules. Every semester, the degree course is comprehensively evaluated. This ensures that the teaching takes into account the needs and ideas of the students.

Special features regarding the international orientation

In the Educational Science faculty, the international coordinator supports psychology students in the planning and organisation of their period abroad. In addition, information events are held every semester on various issues of international mobility; The Educational Science faculty, and the Psychology institute in particular, works on many international research projects

Special features regarding the equipment

We have extensive technical equipment such as eye tracking laboratories, devices for electrodermal measurements, ECG, heart rate variability, PC pools and computer laboratories. The Erwin Hahn Institute in Essen has excellent imaging equipment, which we have access to when we cooperate. All teaching rooms are equipped with modern media technology.

Special features regarding research activities

The research projects generally aim to link basic research with application. In the context of BMBF projects, for example, the development and effectiveness of interventions (e.g. empathy training) for the improvement of mental health among employees is studied. Other research projects are about the implementation of evaluation systems, problem solving skills, teaching research, (neuro-)biological determinants of stress and depression, self-perception, suicide, applied psychometry and psycholinguistics.
